The Challenge
As part of a comprehensive modernization of its IT environment, our media-sector customer also wanted to fundamentally evolve its cybersecurity strategy.
The challenge was particularly significant because media companies are increasingly exposed to attractive attack scenarios. At the same time, modern IT environments often coexist with legacy infrastructures, older operating systems, and business-critical applications that cannot always be updated or patched immediately due to technical dependencies or existing contractual arrangements with partners.
This led to a central question:
How can a heterogeneous IT environment be protected and monitored around the clock – including systems that cannot be modernized in the short term?
The Evaluation
As part of the strategic realignment, the customer evaluated various security providers and solution approaches. Corporate Momentum supported this process and introduced CrowdStrike as a central security framework for endpoints, identities, vulnerabilities, and mobile devices.
A key advantage was the ability to protect not only modern systems. Support for different operating systems and Falcon for Legacy also made it possible to integrate older, business-critical systems into the overall security strategy.
Instead of excluding legacy systems from the security assessment, this approach combined IT modernization with existing technological dependencies.
Our Solution
Together, we implemented a multilayered security architecture based on the CrowdStrike Falcon platform:
- Falcon Complete for 24/7 Managed Detection and Response and professional threat response
- Exposure Management for continuous visibility into vulnerabilities, assets, and relevant risks
- Mobile Device Protection to extend security coverage to mobile endpoints
- Managed Identity Threat Protection to monitor and secure identity-based attack vectors
- Legacy support to integrate older, still-essential systems into the overarching security strategy
The Result
Today, the customer has a centralized security approach for an IT environment that is both modern and historically grown.
24/7 monitoring reduces the burden on the internal IT team and enhances its ability to respond to security incidents. At the same time, Exposure Management provides transparency into existing risks – particularly where vulnerabilities cannot be eliminated immediately through patching due to technical or contractual dependencies.
As a result, cybersecurity does not become an obstacle to IT modernization, but rather an enabler.
The key benefit: Not every legacy system can be replaced tomorrow, and not every vulnerability can be patched immediately. It is therefore essential to understand and prioritize the resulting risks while continuously protecting the entire environment – from legacy systems and identities to mobile endpoints.
